Reading Response #2

"The shooting of a film, especially of a sound film, affords a spectacle unimaginable anywhere at any time before this."
-I didn't really understand this section. How could a films final product be "unimaginable" when the whole thing is methodically planned out, scripted, and directed? Or is this talking about how it would be unimaginable to the audience?

"The painter maintains in his work a natural distance from reality, the cameraman penetrates deeply into its web. There is a tremendous difference between the pictures they obtain."

-How deeply one penetrates into the subject matter is based on skill I would presume? However, this topic seems to be implying that no matter what, a photograph has more depth than a painting. Maybe because of how easily a photograph replicates reality opposed to a painting containing human flaw. In my opinion, the distance from reality obtained from either medium is subjective.
